It’s not you who decides whether you are spreading toxic positivity or not; it’s the others who receive your words and interpret their impact. While your intentions may be well-meaning, it’s important to be mindful of how your words and actions are perceived by those around you. Sometimes, what we consider as positivity can come across as dismissive or invalidating to someone else’s experiences or emotions.
To avoid spreading toxic positivity, it’s crucial to listen actively and empathetically to others, acknowledging their feelings and validating their experiences. Instead of rushing to offer solutions or pushing for a positive outlook, create a safe space for individuals to express themselves authentically. Allow them to process their emotions without judgment or pressure to “just be positive.”
Remember, everyone’s journey is unique, and people may require different forms of support. By being sensitive to others’ needs and respecting their emotions, you can foster a healthier and more compassionate environment.
